Joyent Weblog
Joyent Affiliate Program
As just noted over at el foro de usuarios de TextDrive, we’re kicking off an affiliate program for all of our products. Provided you’re an active customer of ours, you can point people to any of our products and, should they like what they see and sign up, be rewarded with cash-type money: 10% of revenues for monthly and yearly customers, and 15% for those with lifetime accounts like the VCs, Mixed Grill and Three Martini Lunch.
We’re using a third-party affiliate program to do the fine-grained work of tracking and reporting and cutting cheques, which means that those interested in joining our affiliate program need simply sign up for an account at ShareASale.com:
Once your account is approved, they’ll provide you with the correct URLs to point to Joyent, TextDrive, Strongspace and/or Bingo, and all will be taken care of.
Update: Word is coming through that affiliate applications are being rejected for people who don’t publish 100% English language content on their sites. Irksome and boneheaded weaselry. We’re working on figuring something out for our beloved and far-flung polylingual customers. And despite this I continue to say,
Here’s to a glorious partnership!

What’s funny is that I was working on a pitch for you this morning. With the community TextDrive has, I can see how this’d be pretty popular. And thanks again for reminding me that I need to spend more time in the TextDrive forum.
— MacStansbury 977 days ago #Just to make sure I understand correctly. With the affiliate program, a person gets 10-15% of all revenues generated by the customers they refer?
If that’s the case – that’s AWESOME.
Meaning, if I direct Joe Smith to signup for a TextDrive account, I get creditted 10-15% of each months bill invoiced to Joe Smith.

— Todd 976 days ago #That’s right Todd.
— Dean Allen 976 days ago #The signup form still lets people choose a software project to support, which promises “TextDrive will pay 50% of the profits from your subscription to the developer.”
As far as I know this program has not been active for at least a year, is the signup form going to be updated to reflect this? Or if the plan is to continue the program how does it interact with affiliates?
— Matt 976 days ago #The software support program is still as of this moment entirely active. The specifics of how this affects Matt exist entirely outside the sphere of weblog comments.
— Dean Allen 976 days ago #Joyent, you guys ROCK!
— Todd 975 days ago #Here are some badges to go along with your affiliate codes.
— David Young 975 days ago #You guys need some bingo disk badges! :)
— Ryan 974 days ago #Be very careful. When you sign up with these people, they send you your password in cleartext. After you’ve given your Social Security number. With no way to change the password in their web interface.
I hope Textdrive/Joyent finds a better host for their affiliate program soon.
— wanderfowl 935 days ago #So has the issue with the SS# being passed along in cleartext been addressed? I’m interested in this, but I’m a bit weirded out right now when the shareasale site is asking me for this info…
— Dave Chiu 912 days ago #Just as a follow-up to question #10, I contacted ShareASale and apparently you CAN change your login information.
