Have Dell’s been unreliable for you guys at Joyent?
You can’t beat the price and the servers design/reliable have always seemed to be on par or better than other vendors.
So as you can imagine, I have had great experiences with Dell’s 19xx/29xx series servers.
(This is spoke by someone who manages 24 Dell rack mount servers.)
I’m curious to know what experiences Joyent has had with Dell.
Jacob
This is a rack of Dell’s… Dell’s what?
Jacob, I don’t think they are talking about reliability so much as energy efficiency.
@typosphere: man! Outsourced cartoon network! Fixed. Thanks.
Love the beaveresque tattoo
@Jacob: well, this time last year we were an all Dell shop. But then we needed to solve some power issues, etc. You can read all about it on this weblog. Joyeur on Dell.
@Jacob: David says go “green” and save power. When I was hosting boxes at UUnet now Verizon Business back in the day you’d pay a set per cabinet cost without paying for electricity. It was included in your R 3k/month for half a rack.
But on the other hand we were raped on the per Mb charge.
