No, that’s not what they’re really called. Yes, they are awesome though.
Connector has long had a feature called Notifications, which are a super-handy way to notify someone on your team of an event, a link, a document, or whatever. It’s kind of like ‘starring’ something for someone else to check out.
I’m a geek so I like everything coming at me via RSS. Connector’s allowed you follow your Notifications via RSS for a long time, but a lot of people like to find out about things people notify them of in other ways. So we’ve added the ability to be notified via SMS, Email, and Jabber instant messages also. And I must say, getting notifications as text messages on my phone is super-cool.
We’re putting the final finishing touches on ‘notification notifications’ and will release them shortly to all Connector users once they’re ready. The astute will also notice that this works for Joyent Calendar event reminders, too. Go ahead and email or call me if you have any ideas or questions about this feature, or anything else Connector-related. (You do have my contact info now…)
And finally, no, this really isn’t a hot scoop at all, sorry. Connector is open source, so, if you’ve been following the code changesets you would have already seen this feature as it developed. Neat!

Is the SMS stuff going to work outside of the US?
While I can see that this would be a nice feature, could you please, please, please fix the broken functionality in connector e-mail? Web mail has been essentially unusable for the past year (ever since the new code base was implemented). Until web mail works, there is no reason to log into the connector to experience its other nifty features.
Bastiaan, yes. We send text messages as emails via your mobile provider’s email-to-SMS gateway. If your provider isn’t listed we’ll add it.
