I/We wanted to thank everybody who was so kind to provide input over the past 5 – 6 days – here and through other vehicles. I have noted both the positive and negative. I will use both in formulating the go forward strategy.
Instead of commenting directly on each person’s input, I wanted to quickly outline some specifics about what I am doing over the next 60 – 90 days in hopes of shedding some light on how we are planning to address both the suggestions and the concerns submitted.
(Sorry to those who dislike marketing “fluff” but this needs to communicated. I promise that Jason’s next post will be much more “technical”)
I basically have 3 goals for the next 2 – 3 months.
1. Website Rebuild
Many of the concerns will be addressed by this project because it is all about clarification, consolidation and valuable content. We will be addressing and answering the questions around product lines, road-map and the value proposition. The new site will highlight the benefits that our partners bring to our customers. And, the new site will bring together (as logically as possible) all of the resources available on currently dispersed sites like http://discuss.joyent.com, http://codesnippets.joyent.com and http://wiki.joyent.com.
The key success factors for the “web rebuild project” breakdown into three objectives: better serving the potential customer during the decision making process; better serving existing customers through consistency and valuable content; and, creating and open, two-way, communication conduit.
It might not all get done in 90 days but I am going to make sure a good chunk is delivered by April.
2. Partners and Product
Joyent has many partners and more are being added every couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we are not doing a good enough job communicating the value of these relationships to existing and potential customers (the current site is limiting this as well). We did a better job with Zeus but I realize that there still is room for much improvement.
We are also planning on launching a couple of major products in the next 60 – 90 days. Obviously, my focus is to make sure that the value of these new products is clearly communicated far and wide.
Finally, there were many questions regarding specifics products. We are in the final stages of setting the plan with regards to this. I just need a couple more weeks to properly define and document the plan before communicating it. (Sorry for the delay but here I am playing the “new guy card”.)
3. Get Joyent People Out There
The third objective is to get the people within Joyent out into the world speaking at conferences, seminars, to analysts and through the technically focused media. As a new employee of Joyent, I am very impressed and excited by the caliber of expertise housed within this organization. My focus is to help to get this out. Hopefully, giving you even greater access to Joyent as a whole.
So, I know that I have not answered the specifics (like what’s happening with Connector) but hopefully this demonstrates that I (we) are working on it. Look for more specific updates here in the near future….
…and, sincerely, thank you again for the input.

Thanks for posting again. It’s good to know that Joyent is alive aside from announcements of partnerships.
