Excellent article and a very smart acquisition. I’m glad that the three rules have been useful.

JavaScript is the natural language for the cloud, it’s been existing in a sandboxed virtual container (the browser) for over a decade. It’s had to use services (for data persistency, file access etc), its event messaging is the internet. If the Cloud is the Internet OS, then JavaScript is its language (nothing else comes to close to natural fit and breadth).

Anyway, excellent acquisition. You have something with huge potential. Knowing that James is working with such good people also make me happy.

Glad to see others thinking the same way about JavaScript. We have used JavaScript on the server-side to build applications on the Axiom Stack framework for a few years.

Our Director of Development is speaking about Axiom Stack at the JSConf 2009 in April. Hope to see you there!

Yes, this reminds me of the moment that I realized that I love — yes, love — JavaScript. (I felt like a 19th century homosexual, with desires so far out of the mainstream thinking that I had to keep them strictly to myself.) I believe that JavaScript is the dynamic language that K&R would have intended — though that might just be a way of rationalizing the perverse fact that I divide my days between implementing in C and JavaScript…

Incidentally, if anyone is curious about our rationale for implementing our appliance shell in JavaScript, I discuss that here

I’m rapidly warming to JavaScript in cloud contexts. I’ve been writing it for a dozen years or so and see great benefit in doing away with the friction between languages on the client and server side.

Good to see ReasonablySmart getting to see the light of day in a production sense.

Great article about the importance and precariousness of the language JavaScript and building a platform for its wide adoption without the cumbersomeness of the DOM. Have you looked into attending JSConf 2009 and presenting the Open platform during the Track B sessions? It would be a great opportunity to collaborate with other JS leaders and developers.

Hope to see you there, great article.
